CANBERRA 10th November 2023

SOILCO, a leading organics recycling company in Australia, announced today it has agreed to acquire Corkhill Bros (CBS) as part of its strategy to grow the company’s footprint nationally.

CBS is a family-owned and operated organisation with a strong presence in Canberra and southern New South Wales. This strategic transaction brings together two companies with similar values, more than 100 years of combined operational experience and an unwavering commitment to regenerating soils and delivering a more sustainable future for our communities.

The transaction is a significant milestone for both companies with the combined footprint of the organisations now extending from South-East Queensland to southern NSW and ACT. This expanded coverage continues SOILCO’s mission ‘to manage state of the art organics recycling facilities that produce innovative and worlds’ best products and services that meet the soil improvement needs of Australian communities.’ This collaboration will deliver a robust network of more than 15 sites that are supported by expansive distribution channels for a range of products.

Both SOILCO and CBS were founded on the principles of environmental responsibility and ethical business practices within their respective communities. This shared ethos will continue to be a driving force as the two companies integrate their operations and work together to expand their reach and impact.

Managing Director of SOILCO Charlie Emery, who has been with SOILCO since 2001, said “We are delighted to welcome the CBS team into the SOILCO family. Our companies have followed similar trajectories over many decades, transforming and growing to meet the needs of our industry without compromising our family values or commitment to product quality. Together, we will be able to achieve greater efficiencies, provide superior services to our customers and deliver the organics infrastructure needed to meet ambitious resource recovery targets.”

Phillip Corkhill, Managing Director of CBS, added, “We are excited to join forces with SOILCO. This collaboration will make it possible to tap into a broader pool of resources, knowledge and experience to benefit our customers and the environment. Our commitment to Canberra and southern NSW remains unchanged and we look forward to working within the broader SOILCO team.”

Customers and stakeholders can expect a seamless transition as both companies work together to integrate their operations. The acquisition will not disrupt services, and existing contracts will remain in place, ensuring a smooth and reliable experience for all clients. The Corkhill family will retain key leadership positions once the transaction is completed. Charlie added that “it is no accident that we identified Corkhill Bros as a strategic partner in our industry. We recognise the importance of Corkhill’s legacy and contribution to the Canberra region and look forward to seeing the business grow with the next Corkhill generation at the helm.”

The businesses are committed to continuing to serve their existing customers and to bringing the same level of expertise and commitment to other regions of Australia. The transaction is currently pending, and its closure is subject to customary closing conditions including FIRB clearance, which is expected to be received in the coming weeks.
