Turf is used extensively in modern urban design.
When included in the landscape, turf stabilises soils, beautifies outdoor areas and provides recreational space. Other benefits of utilising turf include the reduction of heat, noise, dust and glare.
Passive amenity turf is turf planted in areas subjected to moderate levels of pedestrian traffic. The construction of the lawn area is less complex and the needs differ than those of active recreational areas such as sports fields.
Features of passive amenity areas may include low traffic, minimum maintenance and dependence on natural rainfall.
